The Climate Investor One-funded Red Sea Power Windfarm project located in Djibouti has had a transformative impact on the lives of residents in the surrounding area. This has been made possible by the project’s community development programme. Fatima tells us the story, in her own words, of the impact that the project had on her life.
“As long as we have water, we are happy."
My name is Fatima, and I'm a mother of seven children. Before the Red Sea Power Windfarm project and its community development programme, I was a housewife, solely dependent on my husband's income. But that all changed when I had the opportunity to work as a cleaner as part of the Red Sea Power windfarm project. The income I earned through this job allowed me to provide my family with necessities, including clothes and food.
The employment opportunity which increased our household income also provided me with the chance to send my children to school, giving them access to education and brighter prospects for the future.
In addition to the employment opportunities, the project's community development programme significantly improved our access to water. Before, we often faced challenges in securing enough water for our daily needs. With the weekly delivery of water and now the desalination plant, our water supply has increased, and we no longer must worry about being thirsty or having insufficient water for our family.
The Red Sea Power Windfarm project has brought about positive change in our community, empowering individuals like me to improve our standard of living and secure a better future for our families.”
